Permanent Makeup & Cosmetics (Micropigmentation)

What is Permanent Makeup & Cosmetics (Micropigmentation)?

Permanent makeup is implanting color into your skin. Specialized instruments allow your micropigmentation professional to place color into the layer of skin known as the dermis. Because the outermost layer of skin, the epidermis, is always shedding and renewing itself. When the procedure is completed, the color will appear darker than the final result. This is because the color is in BOTH the epidermis and the dermis. The color in the top layer (epidermis) will flake off during the healing process which will lighten the overall effect. This process is a cosmetic invasive procedure, which requires skill, experience and cooperation with your permanent makeup professional. Permanent makeup is not necessarily intended to replace cosmetics completely. Because the color is placed “in” your skin and not “on” your skin a more natural, softer look results. When you ready for a night on the town and want a different look, you can apply as much additional makeup as you wish. Permanent makeup makes it possible to look better around the clock and to be less self-conscious.

Q: Does the permanent makeup procedure hurt?

A: Topical anesthetics have been developed especially for permanent makeup procedures. Creams and gels are applied to the desired area before and during the procedure to assure you of the most comfortable experience possible. There maybe a tingling sensation feeling. Most people still experience some discomfort, especially for lip color procedure. Rarely is anything stronger than a Tylenol needed for pain.

Q: How long is the recovery?

A: Following eyeliner you will look as if you have had a good cry. Just apply cold packs (not ice) for a few hours (10 min. at a time) for first few hours. Eyebrow procedure has the least swelling. Lip color often involves temporary swelling. You must let your micropigmentation professional know if you have a history of fever blisters so medication can be prescribed.

Q: How long will my permanent makeup last?

A: Permanent makeup (micropigmentation) lasts a long time, but not forever. You will want to freshen up your makeup every few years. The darker the color, the longer the color will stay. Natural, delicate colors are more vulnerable to the effects of sun, swimming, and breakdown of the body’s natural response. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS!

Q: Do you have special needs?

A: If you have scars, vitiligo, alopecia, or health problems, permanent makeup could help. Your micropigmentation professional will be happy to meet with you to evaluate your special needs.
